From Yuma, after Mexico, we headed to the Lake Havasu Balloon Festival. We had thought we were going to miss this from being in Mexico for longer but since our plans changed we were able to go! A nice perk.

After being in San Felipe for 2 weeks we crossed back over to the states for our oldest’s doctors appointment in Yuma. Crossing the border is always a bit different getting back into the USA than it is entering Mexico..

San Felipe felt in a lot of ways like Puerto Penasco where we had visited for a week last year in Mexico. It had a similar feel with a small town and a Malecon (boardwalk) with locals selling trinkets, blankets, sandals, pottery and whatnot.

Our revised plans were to stay in Mexico for two weeks rather than two months. We knew the first week we would stay at Victor’s RV Park (in San Felipe) on the Sea of Cortez, however, we weren’t sure where we would stay the second week of our trip. We toyed with the idea of cutting west to check out Ensenada then going back out through Tecate (to avoid going through Tijuana as we heard this not only is a very busy border crossing but not the safest area either). In the end we decided to stay in the same place for 2 weeks because of the great location, walkability, having kids for the girls to play with there and to decrease driving.

I took a little break from blogging because frankly, I was feeling pretty miserable and overwhelmed with the new needs our family had to be a functional, loving and supportive family with a kiddo with a broken leg. Every time I sat down to write I only had negative words pouring from my fingertips so I decided to take a hiatus until our family got to a more positive place.
The Fulltime Families Rally of 23 other families was a bit overwhelming to say the least. This was our first rally so we didn’t really know what to expect. I knew before we arrived that they had some kids crafts and games scheduled as well as parent discussion group times and group potlucks. I was looking forward to some structure with someone else planning activities. I love creating crafts for the girls but the escalated needs of the family as a whole had increased recently and I was ready for a break.

We were hoping to meet some more of the Fulltime Families a couple days before the rally since we figured it might be a little overwhelming to meet up with 23 other families at the same time. Therefore, we headed to Yuma to camp on BLM land at Mittry Lake outside of Yuma AZ (near where the rally was due to start in a few days). It worked out nicely that there were two families there when we arrived and another two arrived for the last two days of boon docking.

We decided to stick with our original plan and meet up with some of the Fulltime Families before the planned rally. We thought it might be helpful to start off in a smaller more intimate setting so we could get to know people a little better. All of us were also adjusting to our oldest having a broken leg.

This was a long, traumatic, painful and sad bunch of days. It all started when we wanted to help celebrate Christmas with some events while we were in Tucson. We had found a couple festivals to attend but all were after 3pm so we wanted to find a place where the girls could play in the meantime.

After having left Tucson to visit Bisbee and Tombstone, we returned once again to our trusty BLM spot at Snyder Hill– a favorite spot for our kids due to a great climbing tree.
